Vietnamese Delegation Visits Missouri City to Discuss Economic Development Opportunities

Economic development was the center of attention inMissouri Cityrecently during a dialogue with senior Vietnamese officials and dignitaries on the diversity of business opportunities available locally.

Mayor Allen Owen, CouncilmemberDanny Nguyen, City ManagerEdward Broussard, Economic Development Coordinator Bob Graf and other senior Staff members met with a trade delegation of Vietnamese leaders, to discussMissouri City’s growing commercial base and potential future partnerships.

To symbolize the commitment between the country and the City, Mayor Owen signed a memorandum of understanding on trade with Phan Van Ban, Deputy General Director of the Vietnamese Agency for Industry Promotion. (more…)

PINOT’S PALETTE COMING SOON TO SUGAR LAND TOWN SQUARE

Planned Community Developers, Ltd. (PCD) announced today that Pinot’s Palette, a popular arts and crafts studio, will open its doors in September in Sugar Land Town Square. Pinot’s Palette is an art and entertainment studio that offers instructional art classes in an interactive and social atmosphere. The Town Square location will be the studio’s fourth in the Greater Houston area.

At Pinot’s Palette, art teachers direct students with step-by-step instruction to recreate the evening’s featured painting, often a famous piece of artwork. Students are allowed to bring their own cocktails to each group session, and leave the studio with the painting they’ve created. “We couldn’t think of a better location for our studio,” said Diana Vasquez, owner of Pinot’s Palette.

City of Sugar Land and Fluor Enterprises, Inc. Reach Agreement on Long-Term Development and Land Deal

Sugar Land and one of its long-time, major employers, Fluor Enterprises, Inc., a subsidiary of Fluor Corporation, has reached an agreement to remain in Sugar Land for the foreseeable future. Fluor Enterprises, Inc. is the primary operating subsidiary of Fluor Corporation, a Fortune 500 and S&P 500 company. Fluor is in the process of purchasing additional land in Sugar Land and developing a long-term plan to remain in the City. The land is located in the Telfair commercial development, not far from the company’s current facilities in Sugar Land.

Fluor Corporation is the largest U.S.-based, publicly traded engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance services firm, working in such diverse industries as chemicals and petrochemicals, commercial and institutional, government services, manufacturing, oil and gas, renewable energy and transportation infrastructure. Fiscal Year 2013 General Fund Budget Provides a Roadmap for the Future

Focused on maintaining key organizational strategies, strong fiscal management and a commitment to provide excellent community services, Missouri City Council Members voted unanimously to approve the $31.9 million Fiscal Year 2013 General Fund Budget during their June 18 meeting.

The financial plan takes effect July 1 and preserves the principal citizen priorities of public safety, economic growth and infrastructure improvements. “With this blueprint, City Council has given staff and residents a roadmap detailing what we will accomplish over the next year,” said City ManagerEdward Broussard. “Council Members and management worked together on the plan, committed to finding feasible cost-cutting solutions that would both balance the budget and ensure citizens continue to receive quality services and benefit from quality programs.”

REVOLUTION STUDIO COMING SOON TO SUGAR LAND TOWN SQUARE

Planned Community Developers, Ltd. (PCD) announced today that Revolution Studio, an indoor cycling studio, will open its doors in Sugar Land Town Square nearing the end of summer. The fitness studio will feature indoor cycling classes with premium stationary Schwinn bikes taught by certified cycling instructors.

The Town Square location will be Revolution Studio’s first, and is the brainchild of owners Kim Bell, a certified Mad Dogg Athletics spin instructor, and Mitchell Syma, a certified American Sports and Fitness Association cycling instructor. Browne McGregor Architects provided architectural and interior design services for the one story, 6,000 square foot medical office building which includes an ambulatory surgical suite, product demonstration area, and state of the art treatment facilities. The prominent waterfront location overlooks Brooks Lake and is adjacent to the Hyatt Place Hotel.

Under the lead of general contractor Anslow Bryant Construction, completion of the building is anticipated during early November 2012.

27th Annual Event Presented by the Rose-Rich Auto Mile, Hosted by Houstonian

In its sixth year under the banner of the Rose-Rich Auto Mile, the Central Fort Bend Chamber Alliance’s Annual Golf Classic teed off for the 27th time on May 21.

The Chamber fundraiser, which was hosted by the Houstonian Golf & Country Club, proved, yet again, that it is one of the county’s most popular tournaments, fielding 32 teams of four. Fort Bend Family Health Center Welcomes First Patients

After 7 months of renovation, Fort Bend Family Health Center (FBFHC) reopened the doors of its flagship Richmond Center. Patients were welcomed into the newly remolded facility that now features stone and tile interiors, cutting-edge equipment, and comfortable waiting areas and exam rooms.

During the renovation process, FBFHC patients continued to receive quality services in mobile buildings across the street from the 400 Austin Street location. Many patients stayed with Fort Bend Family Health Center during the transition because they liked the care they received. “I’ve been going to Fort Bend Family Health Center for 5 years because of Dr. Robertson. FORT BEND COUNTY CONTINUES TO LEAD U.S. EMPLOYMENT GROWTH

For more than two decades, Fort Bend County has accrued national accolades for economic development, job growth and quality of life. Newly released data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) continues the trend, reporting that Fort Bend County ranks eighth for employment growth out of the 323 largest counties in the United States for the third quarter of 2011.

Fort Bend County, located in southeast Texas and part of the ten-county Greater Houston Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA), is forecast to continue to lead the region in job creation, averaging more than 3% growth per year through 2015. The projection from Woods & Poole Economics is complemented by data from The Brookings Institution, which earlier this year named the Houston MSA as North America’s fastest growing metro area. Sugar Land Among Houston’s Healthiest Employers Award Recipients

The Houston Business Journal (HBJ) recently named Sugar Land among the healthiest employers in the region.

Sugar Land was awarded second place for employers with 500-1,499 employees at HBJ’s first Healthiest Employers awards luncheon on March 1. Verizon Wireless edged out Sugar Land for first place.

Indiana-based Healthiest Employer LLC ranked the companies based on their culture and leadership commitment, communications and marketing, foundational components, report and analysis and strategic planning. The Skeeters are set to host an open audition for game day entertainment at Constellation Field. The auditions will take place Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Imperial Theathre in Sugar Land Town Square from 8:30am-5 pm. Those who audition will be competing for the opportunity to work for the Skeeters in key positions and the chance to perform at Historic Opening Day on April 26 and other games throughout the season.

“With the opening of a new ball park comes the opportunity to give a stage and an audience to all forms of entertainers,” said Tom Gorman, Executive Producer for the Sugar Land Skeeters. “Not only are we trying to fill traditional baseball positions, like public address announcers and national anthem singers, but we are also looking for all sorts of entertainers and personalities. Airport Project Fuels Regional Economy

The recent completion of Sugar Land Regional Airport’s (SLRA) Taxilane Juliett creates up to seven sites for corporate hangars, facilities estimated to provide $700,000 per year from leases and fuel sales.

The majority of the 10-acre $7.8 million project was funded by a Federal Aviation Administration grant administered by the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Aviation Division. The Sugar Land airport’s share of the project was just over 10 percent. (more…)

Skeeters Acquire Rights for Two Former MLB Pitchers

The Sugar Land Skeeters have obtained the Atlantic League negotiating rights of seven players in the Atlantic League Expansion Draft Friday. Most notable from the list are former major league pitchers Logan Kensing and Josh Banks.

FBJSL and The Fred & Mabel R. Parks Youth Ranch Dedicate New Recreation Center

The Fort Bend Junior Service League (FBJSL) and The Fred & Mabel R. Parks Youth Ranch held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, December 3rd, 2011 dedicating the new recreation center made possible by the 2011 FBJSL Charity Ball’s proceeds. Parks Youth Ranch was established to address an identified gap in services for abused, at risk and homeless youth in Fort Bend County. In February 2011 the 90-day emergency youth shelter and counseling center opened and is serving youth between the ages of 13 to 17 years of age. The ranch houses three facilities: The George Counseling Center, a temporary shelter and a new recreation center. Sugar Land Bond Refinancing Saves Taxpayers $819,000

Sugar Land recently refinanced $9.4 million in bond issues, saving taxpayers $91,000 annually for the next nine years. The Series 2012 General Obligation and Refunding Bonds replace three existing bond issues and received a AAA rating from both Standard & Poor’s and Fitch Ratings. The AAA rating is the highest bond rating a municipal bond can carry and represents a bond with minimal risk due to the strong financial management practices of the City. (more…)

The Exchange members took a van full of food to the Parks Youth Ranch the day before Thanksgiving. EXANA APPOINTS NEW BOARD MEMBER

Nina Schaefer was elected to the Texana Board of Trustees in October, 2011 and will represent Fort Bend County. She is the proud sister of a client of Texana who has intellectual disabilities. She has served on the board of Richmond State Supported Living Center Volunteer Services Council for a number of years. Additionally, she has served on boards for many non-profit organizations, in her church, and has been active in community service organizations for many years. Ms Schaefer graduated from Houston Baptist University with honors in two majors, English and Political Science. She then graduated from South Texas College of Law and has been practicing law in Ft. Bend County for over 25 years. Dianne Wilson, Texana Board of Trustees Chair said “Nina will be a great addition to the board and we are all looking forward to having her insight and working with her.”

Oyster Creek Manor Welcomed To Missouri City Community

On behalf of City Council, Missouri City Mayor Allen Owen welcomed Oyster Creek Manor to the community at the Thursday, Oct. 27 building dedication for the assisted living and memory care facility.
