Retired Seniors 55 and better are invited to participate in Community Theater at the Mamie George Community Center. Auditions for readers, actors, singers and dancers will be held at the center on October 29th 10 am – 12 pm. This is an opportunity for seniors to develop their skills and perform in a staged production. Seniors of all levels of experience, from novice to seasoned pro, are welcome to participate.
Senior Community Theater at the Mamie George Community Center enlists the support of professional actors and theater director, Kristin Miller of the “Imagine That!” Theater Company. The cast will participate in 8 classes that teach scene work, storytelling, vocals, choreography and character creations. The general community is invited to attend the senior’s premiere on November 26th 11:30am. “The antics of the 55-plus crowd involved in Community Theatre may surprise you.” says Miller “Seniors tend to go further than one’s expectation. This will definitely be a fun production!”
National statistics prove that seniors who participate in theater lead healthier lives. Experts say acting offers cognitive, emotional and physiological benefits because it stimulates activity in the brain. A study performed at the Center for Aging, Health, and Humanities at George Washington University showed seniors involved in the arts have fewer falls, fewer doctor visits and fewer pills to take, and they are in better health than those who do not participate in the arts.
Please call the center at 281-202-6200 to RSVP for auditions being held on October 29th, 2014.
