TV Asahi in Japan to Feature New Year’s Eve Sugar Land Cube Drop
Sugar Land’s state-of-the-art, 3D New Year’s Eve light show will be featured on a television program in Japan, a country that has long appreciated cutting-edge technology.
TV Asahi plans to include video from Sugar Land’s show on a program called “Torihada,” scheduled to air in January. Given that most local cable and satellite providers don’t carry the Japanese channel, be sure to attend this year’s New Year’s Eve event in Sugar Land Town Square for another live performance of the world-renowned technology.
For the third consecutive year, the City will feature its signature Sugar Cube drop as part of a six-minute 3D building projection show during the midnight countdown. Fish will seem to swim in a digital pool from City Hall’s third floor. The entire building will come to life using the latest in video imaging technology. State-of-the-art lighting effects and energetic music from the Bourbon Street Band and dueling DJs will fill Town Square throughout the evening.
It’s all part of Sugar Land’s 3rd annual New Year’s Eve on the Square celebration. To ensure fun for all ages, the event has been divided into two segments:
● The Children’s Celebration will start at 7 p.m. with its own choreographed fireworks finale at 9 p.m.
● After a 30 minute break, the party kicks off for the New Year’s Eve celebration from 9:30 p.m. that will include alcohol available for purchase by responsible adults until 1 a.m.
Acrobatic street performing comedians from Nashville will keep the crowd entertained along City Walk Drive. There will also be a live ice sculpting artist from Chicago and many other street performers to entertain more than 15,000 attendees. The event will also include giant roaming Carnaval-type puppets, including 9-foot Living Vines and 10-foot butterflies.
This event is free, and parking will be available at the Texas and Lonestar Garages. A free shuttle service from Mercer Stadium, 16403 Lexington Boulevard, to Sugar Land Town Square will be available from 6:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
Taxi services will be available beginning at 11 p.m. Taxis can either be pre-booked or booked on the night of the event by visiting the City of Sugar Land information kiosk. All taxi fares and charges will be the responsibility of passengers.
