Spring 2012 Master Gardener “Evening” Classes to Begin

The Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Fort Bend County is accepting applications for the Spring 2012 Master Gardener Training Class. The 7-week condensed class will begin the evening of Tuesday, January 17, 2012, and will meet each Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., with two Saturday classes 9am – 12:30 p.m. through Wednesday, February 29th. Topics range from design planning, diseases, insects, soil, water conservation, tree production/transplanting, perennials and roses, Earth-Kind® practices, and more.

Master Gardeners are members of the local community who want to become volunteer Extension educators and who take an active interest in their lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, and gardens. They are enthusiastic, willing to learn and help others, and are able to communicate with diverse groups of people. The deadline to register is Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Class size is limited. The tuition is $200 per individual and $353 per couple (share a manual). Requirements to attain the rank of a Certified Texas Master Gardener are the successful completion of the 7-week training course and 50 hours of volunteer service through Texas AgriLife Extension Service programs.
