Juniors of Troop 28057 Held a Pet Blessing and Food Drive

As part of their Bronze Award Community Service Work the Juniors of Troop 28057 with the generous help from the Division Director and Manager of the new PetCo in Missouri City held a pet blessing and food drive on Saturday, October 15th at New Hope Lutheran Church. The Troop raised 500lbs of pet food for Seniors of Fort Bend and their Pet Companions at this drive and will continue collecting food to reach a 1000lb goal by the end of October. (more…)

Aetna Foundation Supports YMCA Program Promoting Youth Health & Wellness

At a recent presentation at the Fort Bend YMCA, it was announced that the YMCA would be a recipient of a $25,000 grant for the YMCA’s After School and Outreach Health Enhancement program. During the presentation, Maria Mendez, Mid-America West Regional Director for Aetna, presented YMCA Group Executive Director, Eric Schenkelberg, with a check for $25,000. “Aetna is proud to be supporting the YMCA in their endeavors to make this community’s youth healthier”, stated Maria Mendez of Aetna. Area businesses, including automobile dealerships, independent repair facilities and tractor service facilities have discovered a way to find the highly-skilled technicians they need at Lamar CISD.

Young Man Brings His “Sweet Heat” to FBJSL’s Sugar Plum Market

The Fort Bend Junior Service League (FBJSL) is proud to showcase a new vendor at the 2011 Sugar Plum Market: Nolan’s Sweet Heat. The proprietor is an entrepreneurial young man and Katy resident, Nolan Stilwell. Nolan has Downs Syndrome, and with the support of his mother Christine, he has created a very unique jalapeno jelly enterprise. Nolan’s Sweet Heat is a hot pepper jelly that was born out of Nolan’s love of gardening and cooking. He makes his batches weekly and sells his Sweet Heat at community events, local stores and through his Face Book page. “We are thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to Nolan so that he can market his Sweet Heat to more members of the community. He is such a positive example for young entrepreneurs!” remarked Jana Baumann, Market co-chair. (more…)

Cadete Thiri Lwin Recognized as Cadet of the Month

William P. Clements NJROTC Unit selected Cadet Thiri Lwin as the September Cadet of the Month. Cadet Lwin is a 9th grade student, which classifies her as a Naval Science I Student. Cadet Lwin literally hit the deck running. After only a month in the unit, she has made a big impression on her instructors and the cadet corps. (more…)

FBISD Board of Trustees honor Administrators at Top Rated Schools

Fort Bend ISD held its annual Celebrate Success awards reception and presentation to honor top school administrators at 45 campuses that earned Exemplary or Recognized ratings for 2011 by the Texas Education Agency. The event presented the FBISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent with an opportunity to meet face-to-face with administrators and honor them for their leadership and efforts in improving student achievement.

Dr. Timothy Jenney, Superintendent, welcomed guests and introduced the Board of Trustees. Board Members include Susan Hohnbaum, President; Marilyn Glover, Vice President; Jim Rice, Secretary; Bruce Albright, Sonal Bhuchar, Cynthia L. Gary, and Dr. Patsy Taylor.

Susan Hohnbaum, Board President, commended administrators for all they’ve done to keep the momentum going on the District’s journey to success. She also spoke of the pride and appreciation the Board has for administrators and their staff members who have kept their focus on the classroom. Hohnbaum then joined her fellow Board Members in presenting Exemplary and Recognized plaques to representatives of each of the 45 campuses.

Honored for earning Exemplary status were: Austin Parkway Elementary School, Brazos Bend Elementary School, Colony Meadows Elementary School, Commonwealth Elementary School, Cornerstone Elementary School, Drabek Elementary School, Jordan Elementary School, Meadows Elementary School, Mission Glen Elementary School, Oakland Elementary School, Pecan Grove Elementary School, Quail Valley Elementary School, Scanlan Oaks Elementary School, Settlers Way Elementary School, Sienna Crossing Elementary School, Walker Station Elementary School, Fort Settlement Middle School, Sartartia Middle School and Clements High School.
