Artwork of Lake Olympia Middle School Student wins 1st Place in Earth Day Contest
Lake Olympia Middle School seventh-grade student, Samuel Melvin, won first place in the 7th grade category of the Earth Day Houston Art Contest. His winning work of art featured an illustration of two hands holding our planet surrounded by images of fish, plants, animals and trees. As winner of his division, Melvin earned a U.S. savings bond and recognition at an awards ceremony hosted by Air Alliance Houston. His artwork will be framed and displayed at The Greater Houston Convention Visitors Bureau and at Houston City Hall during the Houston Earth Day Celebration on April 7.
Air Alliance Houston will also host an auction featuring the artwork of the contest winners on April 19, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Winter Street Studios (2101 Winter Street, Studio #12A, Houston, 77008). Melvin’s artwork will be among those auctioned, with proceeds from the auction benefiting participating schools and Air Alliance Houston. The event is open to the public.
