Annual VIPS Salute honors Fort Bend ISD School Volunteers
Fort Bend ISD’s Community Relations Department hosted its annual VIPS Salute on December 1 to recognize school volunteers who contribute greatly to the success of students and schools each year.
Last year, the District’s Volunteers In Public Schools devoted more than 296,000 volunteer hours to schools. If you attach the rate of $21.47 per hour (a rate established by the Independent Sector), close to $6 million in volunteer services were donated to assist students in just one year.
“Our annual VIPS Salute gives us the opportunity to express our gratitude to volunteers for all they do throughout the school year to support our students and our schools,” said Pamela Shaw, Volunteers/Partnerships Coordinator. “No matter how great or small the request, volunteers are eager to work with us to ensure that our students have a rewarding school experience, and for that we are thankful.”
Joining in the salute to volunteers were: Dr. Timothy Jenney, FBISD Superintendent; Sonal Bhuchar, FBISD Board Member; Dr. Kathryn LeRoy, Chief Quality and Improvement Officer; Nancy Porter, Chief Communications Officer; Mike McKie, Assistant Superintendent, Department of School Administration; Rhonda McWilliams, Assistant Superintendent, Department of School Administration; Brenna Smelley, Executive Director, Fort Bend Education Foundation; and Stacey Crews, Communications Director.
Guests enjoyed a continental breakfast, holiday music performed by the Clements High School String Orchestra, and door prizes.
