Texas CASA Names Kirchof Board Member of the Year

Sugar Land, Texas (October 31, 2013) - Nalco General Manager and board member of Child Advocates of Fort Bend Kurt Kirchof was honored as the Texas CASA Excellence in Governance Board Member of the Year by Texas CASA, the statewide network of local Court Appointed Special Advocate programs which recruit, train and support volunteers who speak up in court for children in the foster care system. The award was presented during Texas CASA’s annual conference in San Marcos on October 25.

Ridge Point High School Band and Color Guard Head to State

Sugar Land, Texas (October 29, 2013) - The Ridge Point High School Marching Band and Color Guard, led by Director Dr. Michael Barnes and Assistant Director Andrew Lee, have made school and district history by advancing to the UIL State Marching Band Contest.

This is the first year that the band and color guard have advanced to the competition, and they are only the third Fort Bend ISD band to do so. (They follow the Austin High School and Clements High School Bands.)

Eclipse Soccer Raises Money for Memorial Hermann Sugar Land

Sugar Land, Texas (October 28, 2013) - Eclipse Soccer, recently had a shirt sale/drive for Breast Cancer Awareness month. They created pink t-shirts for their club and sold them to their community. A portion of the amount raised from sales of the Eclipse Pink shirts (the ones the girls are wearing), was donated back to the Memorial Hermann Foundation.

Paul Rossetti, Eclipse President said, “With over 3 million women battling breast cancer in the U.S. today, it is our responsibility to join the efforts to raise money for research and awareness.”

Second Annual Pretty in Pink Raises Funds for Cancer Patients

Sugar Land, Texas (October 25, 2013) - The community charity event, Pretty in Pink—Town Square, raised more than $114,000 to benefit local cancer patients through the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital Cancer fund.

Eleven-year Winning Streak for Bush High School Navy JROTC

Fort Bend ISD (October 17, 2013) - For the eleventh consecutive year, Bush High School Navy JROTC cadets earned the first place overall award for their outstanding performance at the Fort Bend ISD Drill and Skills Competition, held at Kempner High School.

Luis Salazar, Male Color Guard Commander; Trashawn Sillimon, Armed Exhibition Commander; Daniel Mendoza, Battalion Commanding Officer and Armed Regulation Commander; Siomara Ayala, Female Color Guard Commander; and Rosmeri Ayala, Unarmed Drill Team Commander.

The competition invited all FBISD JROTC Drill Units to enter the competition and demonstrate their skills. The units were evaluated on Personal Appearance, Armed and Unarmed Drill, Color Guard Demonstration, and Physical Fitness prowess.Bush cadets earned the first place overall award after receiving first place in the following areas of competition:

Campbell Elementary Kids Celebrate Pinwheels for Peace

Campbell students in Art teacher Deborah Holzhuter’s class were introduced to International Peace Day. This event is held word wide. Their students celebrated by making a pinwheel and taking it out to put in their school-wide pinwheel display. This is the second year our school has participated in this event as they, “Imagine… whirled peace!”

David Crockett and Sugar Land Middle Schools Raise Cancer Support Through Volley Pink Project

Sugar Land, Texas (October 10, 2013) - David Crockett and Sugar Land Middle Schools raised $1,040.47 for the Volley Pink Project volleyball game October 4 at Crockett. It is the third year the two schools have teamed with the Fort Bend Junior Service League to help local cancer patients with the costs associated with their treatment. Each school contributed just over $500 to the cause.

U.S. Army Drafts Terry High School Principal Vera Wehring

Austin Bulldogs Marching Band and Angels Dance Team Compete

Sugar Land, Texas (October 3, 2013) - Despite the thunder at the end of their preliminary performance, the Austin Bulldog Marching Band and Angels Dance Team finished in second place at the fourth annual Friendswood Marching Festival.

Stephen F. Austin took home the awards for best auxiliary and best general effect in both the preliminary and finals competition. This year the band and Angels are under the direction of Bob Chreste, Michael Roche, Clark Gardner, Lilian Mason, and Ashlee Williamson.
