New Headache Center Opens in Sugar Land

Sugar Land, TX — (August 29, 2013) — It can start as a dull ache - barely noticeable - but by the end of the day you’re clutching your forehead in pain. “Most of the time, headaches are a nuisance and nothing to worry about,” says Rajesh Bindal, M.D., neurosurgeon and medical director of the neuroscience program at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital. “However, if headaches disrupt your life on a regular basis, they should be discussed with a physician.”

Fluor makes Back to School special for Hunters Glen Elementary Students

Fort Bend (August 28, 2013) - Back to school was made extra special for the students at Hunters Glen Elementary School. Each student received a new backpack filled with school supplies, courtesy of the Fluor Corporation. Fluor Cares, the employee volunteer program, sponsors a school supply drive each summer, collecting supplies (such as notebooks, crayons, rulers and glue) for students in grades PreK through fifth.

Voters to Decide $50 Million Bond Election for Parks Projects

Sugar Land, TX (August 22, 2013) - Sugar Land City Council has called a bond election for the Nov. 5 general election for voters to consider funding $50 million dollars on three parks propositions.

The bond propositions include a new 65-acre major community park, development of 128 acres of new parkland along the Brazos River including an adjacent festival site, and nearly 10 miles of hike and bike trails and bridges.

Free GED and Pre GED Preparation Classes at the Literacy Council

Sugar Land, Texas (August 12, 2013) - The Literacy Council of Fort Bend County is announcing its 2013-2014 schedule for upcoming GED and Pre GED preparation classes. Those needing to prepare for the GED test can attend these classes—free of charge. While the classes are free, there is a $30 registration fee.

FORT BEND (August 9, 2013) - Representatives of the Fort Bend Education Association (FBEA) presented Charles Dupre, Fort Bend ISD Superintendent of Schools, with an award on August 8 in appreciation of his dedication and commitment to the students and staff of Fort Bend ISD. FBEA is an affiliate of the Texas State Teachers Association, which works to unite, organize and empower public education advocates to shape public education in Texas and provide a quality public school experience for every child.

Fort Bend Teen Service League Announces Membership Drive

Fort Bend (August 6, 2013) - The Fort Bend Teen Service League (FBTSL), a mentoring project of the Fort Bend Junior Service League, is welcoming teens across Fort Bend County to join the FBTSL. Membership is open to girls in grades 9-12. The final informational meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 4 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 2245 Texas Drive, Suite 300, across from Guru Burgers & Crepes in Sugar Land Town Square. Free Registration for Sugar Land Police Department’s Citzens Police Academy

Sugar Land, Texas (August 5, 2013) - Want to discover firsthand what it takes to be a police officer, get to know your beat officer and learn more about criminal investigation? Find out by signing up for the Sugar Land Police Department’s recently expanded Citizens Police Academy.

The course begins Sept. 12 and ends on Dec. 5, with students meeting once a week from 7-10 p.m., including weekend courses that include firearm simulations, mock building searches and simulated traffic stops.

Course registration continues through Sept. 9, 2013.

Fort Bend ISD Principals Serve Community of Sugar Land

Sugar Land, Texas (August 1, 2013) - Two Fort Bend ISD principals were elected to serve as officers for the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA). Christina Hopkins of Rosa Parks Elementary School will serve as District 4 President-Elect, and Laura Ramirez of E. A. Jones Elementary School is the new Third Vice President of Membership. Officers from the 20 TEPSA districts across the state were installed at the association’s July Leadership Conference.
