The school hosted a dedication ceremony in April to reveal the new playground pavilion. More than 1,100 students joined school administrators and staff, as well as former principal Barbie Herrington, in gathering to give thanks to those responsible for the structure. Fifth-grade Student Council members Gavin Allen and Avery Smith opened the ceremony giving thanks to the special guests. The school choir sang a special song written by music teacher, Tory Randle, with assistance from fourth and fifth-grade choir members; and Principal Lori Hoeffken presented special guests with plaques in appreciation of their contributions. Following the dedication ceremony, guests enjoyed a reception organized by counselor Tonichia Jackson.

Oakland Principal Lori Hoeffken thanks the honored guests.
