Mary Allen has been volunteering for Child Advocates of Fort Bend for 18 months and, without question, she feels like she has already made a difference in childrens lives. Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)
volunteers are often the only constant in an abused childs life. CASA is part of Child Advocates. According to Allen, who lives in Sugar Land, CASA volunteers see the benefits of providing long-term service to a child.
The children get to know us and open up and talk. It builds their trust, she said. A well-known local organization, Child Advocates addresses the needs of abused and neglected children who are in state protective
custody through two programs: CASA and the Childrens Advocacy Center (CAC). At the center of the fight against child abuse, Child Advocates provides support to the children it serves by seeing that their needs are met
and their perpetrators held accountable. It is also able to match a CASA volunteer to each Fort Bend child in state custody. Child Advocates believes that every child deserves a safe, loving, permanent home. A Child
Advocates volunteers role is to provide information to the court on behalf of these children. Phalguni Kikani of Sugar Land has also been volunteering for CAFB for 18 months. My cases are very important and I love the
children. The children look forward to my visit and I look forward to seeing them. I have also learned to appreciate what my own family has. My priorities have changed and being a volunteer has made me more humble.
