Sugar Land Wedding Etiquette for Kids and Parents!
By Stefanie Matta

Is your family going to a wedding this year? Will your children know what to do (and what not to do)? Give the Bride and Groom something to remember you by the gift of good behavior from your children.

Debbie Turner, the owner of Gonnabees -- a new school of etiquette for children located in Greatwood, gives these top wedding tips for children and parents. Sometimes adults need a little help, too.

  • Make sure your children are really invited. Children are invited to attend the wedding only if their names appear on the invitation. Otherwise, they are not to attend even if they are related to the bride or groom. Ask yourself does my child really need to be there? Not every child has the attention span and ability to sit through a lengthy wedding. Some children will be happier staying at home with a babysitter.

  • Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse! Children who know what to expect will know what is expected of them.

  • Arrive on time usually 20 to 30 minutes before the time on the invitation. The time on the invitation is when the bride will walk down the aisle.

  • Sit quietly during the ceremony. Be attentive during the ceremony. Music players, coloring books, and games are not acceptable. If the children cannot sit through the ceremony, they should not attend.

  • Practice good table manners. Great dining etiquette will make your child stand out!

  • Thank your hosts. The children should say goodbye to the bride and groom before leaving and thank them for the invitation.

Kim Horst is a Sugar Land resident, mother of four children and has been married for 16 years. She had a large traditional wedding in 1990, with the reception at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas.
