There is more to summer than video games and beach towels. Whether your child is a budding artist, athlete or bookworm, there is a summer program for him or her. Children can learn new skills, get fit, meet new friends and have fun doing activities or sports they enjoy.

Think theres plenty of time to plan summer activities for your child? Think again. Many programs fill up early. Sugar Land parents say they plan ahead each year to provide some great enrichment activities for their kids during the hot summer months. My four kids always go to (Wharton County Junior College) Kids College, says Jenny Mason. It is a great program for kids to try different activities out that they may not have a chance to try during the school year, or try something out before signing them onto a team for an entire season. Jodi Yurcaks daughter, Jami, spent some of last summer at a volleyball camp at The Club in New Territory. She really enjoyed it, said Jodi. They taught her basic skills to play the game and they had games against each other. At the end of the camp, they played a game and invited the parents to come and watch them show off their new skills.

Not sure what to do with your kids this summer?
