The George Foundation Provides Meals for Fort Bend’s Seniors

The George Foundation has once again made it possible for Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels to provide meals to over 300 shut-in senior citizens for the next 52 weekends, through their generous grant of$50,000.

Nutrition is very important to these seniors and the meals helps keep them healthier. Not eating over the weekend creates additional health problems, especially for those on medication. The weekends can be long and depressing for seniors and when compounded with hunger, the seniors become frail and ill, which is why the funds from this grant are so important, according to Arroyos.

Fort Bend Seniors presently provides meals to approximately 900 senior citizens a day, throughout Fort Bend County with the help of approx. 600 volunteers. The volunteers who deliver the meals make a big difference in the shut-ins’ lives by taking a few moments to visit with the senior and make sure all is well. Fort Bend Seniors is committed to helping seniors remain independent by enhancing their quality of life through services and resources.

For more information on FBS, to adopt a senior by providing funds for meals or to volunteer to deliver meals, please visit www.fortbendseniors.org or call 281-633-7049. Please mention you found this on www.SugarLandMagazine.com.
